Enchanté

Regency. 23. Windmill-punching my way through postbacc, grad school, and life. Name for the pleasure of having you on my blog and my Orphan Black OTP: Science Girlfriends (Cosima/Delphine). Here you shall find a love of all things involving badass women, fictional and otherwise. I also love SciFi in movies and on TV. Stargate, Star Trek, Sanctuary, X-Files, Doctor Who, Sherlock, The Avengers, Orphan Black, and more. I love all sorts of things. I'm a geek for languages, select literature, politics, military affairs, and fandom. On a good day, I'm obsessed with algebraic equations and rudimentary physics. I like to write fanfiction and original fiction. I also kickbox and read like it's going out of style. Hi!

www.malesurvivor.org

www.violenceunsilenced.com

www.rainn.org

www.pandys.org

www.1in6.org

www.soulspeakout.org

Thanks everyone!

How rape trials should go?

Lawyer:
Did he rape her?
Witness:
Yes, but she was drunk and passed out.
Lawyer:
That's not what I asked. Did he rape her?
Witness:
Yes, but she was wearin-
Lawyer:
I didn't ask what she was wearing. Did he rape her?
Witness:
Yes, but-
Lawyer:
I didn't ask anything else. It's just a simple yes or no answer. Did he rape her?
Witness:
Yes.
Laywer:
Yes, he raped her.
Rape is rape is rape, no matter the context.

I’m trying to quit cutting. Reblog this and I will write down your url and put it in a box/jar for me to go to when I feel like cutting. If you’re there for me to talk to so I know someone cares. I’ve tried so many times to quit, but every time, I always end up alone at some point. I want you guys to reblog this so I know that I have you and I’m not alone. It would mean the world to me. I really want to stop.

I support you, love.

EVERYBODY BETTER REBLOG THIS

Watch Elementary, they said.
It’s as good as Sherlock, they said.

Except Watson is a woman, Holmes sleeps around, Mrs. Hudson is a transvestite, and the main actor spends his time doing an increasingly bad Benedict Cumberbatch impression.

Gee, why weren’t Moffat and Gatiss okay with this again? :/

What what what are you doing?

No, I know what you’re doing. Cut it out. It’s not okay.  And you wonder why people don’t respect rabid fans of Sherlock.  This is why.  You present many of the shortcomings that BBC Sherlock itself is accused of and you’re unrepentant.  It’s fine to have an opinion, it’s fine to prefer one thing over another, but to exhibit needless misogyny, slut shaming, and transphobia is way over the line.  BBC Sherlock plays the same needless cards (transphobia so far excepted with some maybe racism and homophobia tossed in) without any of the off-setting that Elementary does (usually via Joan Watson’s voice of ‘not having Sherlock’s bullshit’).  Love your show, that’s cool, but if you think spewing a bigoted opinion in 100 words or less makes you the specialest snowflake this blizzard, you’re gonna be real surprised at how fast you melt when the internet gets done roasting you.  Moffat and Gatiss don’t own Sherlock Holmes and they aren’t always right.  Please seriously reconsider using them or their writing as a barometer for acceptable behavior, because it is leading you very much astray.

[TW: rape] Consider why rape is thought to be more serious if the victim is a straight man or a female virgin. Do we think that a woman who has sex with men willingly in other circumstances shouldn’t be so upset at having sex unwillingly? There is a huge misconception here that rape is simply a rougher form of sex. It isn’t. Rape is to sex what being being beaten unconscious is to falling asleep. It is an act of violence visited upon a person’s body and it is always traumatic.
